Model UN Competes in Washington, DC

The Wyomissing Area Model UN team, led by advisor Mr. Dramby and chaperone Miss Tierney, competed in the North American Invitational Model United Nations Conference hosted by Georgetown University in Washington, DC. This 4-day competition included over 3,000 students from around the world debating a variety of historical and contemporary international issues. Students developed skills in diplomacy, collaboration, public speaking, and more while forging friendships and making lasting memories.
Our Spartans competed in 17 different committees, earning awards for their performances in 6.

“My favorite part of the trip was getting to know other delegates from a wide range of schools, grades, and even countries. Model UN has given me a major step up in my public speaking skills. I get to collaborate with other intelligent students to solve the world's most serious issues diplomatically. During these trips, I get to rediscover my love for learning and political science.” - Harper Ostrich
“I think that this trip (NAIMUN) has realigned my priorities in life. After experiencing an event with over 3,000 other high school students, I realized how much of a small iota of the universe I am. I believe my track for the future is no longer one that achieves success or money, but rather one where I continue to experience and learn about all of the other iotas(people) in our world.” - Jonah Matteo

“Model U.N allows me to not only grow as a student but as a person. It allows me to experience different demographics of people that I wouldn’t usually get to meet in Wyomissing. At NAIMUN, approximately 16 percent of the students were from foreign countries, so I was able to surround myself with different perspectives and cultures. By the end of the weekend, NAIMUN had not only expanded my skills as a student, but it had broadened my perception of society.” - Morgan Schuster
