Olivet
West Reading Elementary Center Partners with Olivet Boys’ and Girls’ Club

Starting in late September of this year, the West Reading Elementary Center has partnered with the Olivet Boys’ and Girls’ Club to establish an Olivet after-school program at the WREC building. The program will begin serving students in grades five and six but will eventually open to students in grades three through seven.

Wyomissing Area Administration Participates in Service Learning Opportunity

This summer, members of the Wyomissing Area School District’s administrative team partnered with New Journey Community Outreach to pack and distribute food to those in need. Along with the 150 bags of lunch that were packed during this event, a clothing drive was also provided for community members.

Currently, the September 26, 2020 and October 3, 2020 SAT's scheduled to be held at Wyomissing Area High School will proceed as planned. If circumstances change that require the cancellation of the test, the closure will be posted on the Wyomissing Area School District website and the College Board website. Since conditions continue to change quickly during the pandemic, it is recommended that students/ parents check frequently for test center updates.

Student Breakfast, Lunch, and Educational Resources

Per the recent school closures due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), free school breakfast and lunch will be made available to all students of the Wyomissing Area School District, starting Tuesday, March 17, 2020. Meals will be made available Monday through Friday during school closures (no meals on weekends). Grab and Go meals will be offered at each school between 11 am and 12:30 pm.

After years of writing, illustrating, and revising, Dr. Corbett Babb, WREC Principal, and Mr. Michael Miller, WREC and JSHS art teacher, celebrated the publishing of their book Melody’s Gift on September 20. WAEF honored the pair at a book launch celebration for district staff, faculty members, and WAEF board members at the home of the Carlino family in Wyomissing. In addition to a night of fun and food, each attendant received a signed copy of the book.

During Wyomissing Area Senior High’s 95th commencement ceremony, 150 graduates received their diplomas on Friday, June 7, at the Scottish Rite Cathedral. Student speakers included Valedictorian Joanna Helm, Salutatorian Benjamin Chen, President of the Class of 2019, Fanny Ortiz, Class Secretary, Grace Gleason, Class Treasurer, Mia Huber, and Class Vice President, Samantha Zechman.

Celebrating the Class of 2019 During Wyomissing Area Senior High’s 95th commencement ceremony, 150 graduates received their diplomas on Friday, June 7, at the Scottish Rite Cathedral. Student speakers included Valedictorian Joanna Helm, Salutatorian Benjamin Chen, President of the Class of 2019, Fanny Ortiz, Class Secretary, Grace Gleason, Class Treasurer, Mia Huber, and Class Vice President, Samantha Zechman. Joanne Helm addressed her peers, “Let us all remember to start each day with grateful hearts and let us go into this exciting new chapter with a voracious will to live.” Benjamin Chen shared, "This class has been one of the most passionate and caring in Wyomissing Area history. Passion is what I find best defines this group of individuals. Our deeper exploration in subjects outside what is taught in class allows us to find our true interests and go beyond." Grace Gleason recalled advice from her parents, "Remember who you are and what you represent." "The Class of 2019 will be remembered for its commitment, dedication, and excellence in academics, athletics, the arts and community service," said Dr. Corey Jones, principal. "It was truly a pleasure to have them and their families in our building and community." Senior Spotlight - Trevor Beane Trevor Beane will continue his education at the Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology, majoring in Electrical Technology. He was inspired to pursue this education by the Berks Career & Technology Center. Trevor will also play football in college.

We are pleased to share that Wyomissing Hills Elementary School has water service and will operate on a regular schedule today. The school’s water is not approved to drink currently so we will have bottled water available for students and staff.

Water service has returned and WHEC will operate on a regular schedule on October 12, 2018.  The boil water advisory remains in effect so students and staff will have access to bottled water to drink.  Students may also bring bottled water or  a small thermos of water to school as well.

When walking around Berks County, if you look carefully, you just might find a rock colorfully painted with whimsical pictures or with inspirational words carefully hiding in plain view. It is likely that the painter was a student in the Wyomissing Area School District, and that written on the back of the rock will be either “Berks County Rocks” or “The Kindness Rocks Project.”
