Assistant Superintendent

Berks County native Dr. Melissa Woodard joins the Wyomissing Area School District as the assistant superintendent. Recognized throughout Berks County as an effective leader in curriculum and instruction, her experience will help the district continue to provide excellent programs and services that prepare all students for success.

Dr. Woodard comes to the Wyomissing Area School District after 13 years with the Boyertown Area School District, where she most recently served as assistant superintendent. During her tenure there, Dr. Woodard supervised curriculum, instruction, assessment and professional development. She has been instrumental in implementing an instructional coaching program, facilitated the development of four areas of academic study at Boyertown Area High School, secured a partnership with Kutztown University for professional staff development, and received a Pre-K Counts grant to start pre-kindergarten programming in September 2018.  

Before that, Dr. Woodard served as a principal, teacher, and cross-country coach in other Berks County school districts. She earned her bachelor’s degree in elementary education from West Chester University, her master’s degree in education from Kutztown University, and her principal’s certificate from Alvernia University. Dr. Woodard received her doctorate in educational leadership from Immaculata University and completed an extensive study of effective professional-development practices as a graduate of the Learning Forward Academy. She is also a graduate of the Leadership Berks class of 2017.

As a delegate of the AP College Board in 2015, Dr. Woodard joined a team of educational leaders from around the United States to study school systems across China. Dr. Woodard resides in Oley Township with her husband, Brian, and two children.
